Media and figures in positions of influence are currently comparing the current Trump administration and its mild defenders as Nazis or Fascists, and failing miserably to see the irony.
Felarca, who helped organise the protests at UC-Berkeley two weeks ago, is calling for similar protests at universities across the country when there are guest speakers she believes are “fascists.”
Felarca who is a school teacher in charge of children and shaping young minds, made the following statement;
“A fascist is someone who’s organising a mass movement that’s attacking women, immigrants, black people, other minority groups in a movement of genocide,” Felarca said.
She said that Milo Yiannopoulos, the subject of the Berkeley riots, is a fascist because he whips up a “lynch mob mentality” among his and Trumps supporters and incites violence.
Anyone who has listened to Milo Yiannopoulos from an objective point of view may be hard pressed to find any evidence of him whipping up a “lynch mob mentality.”
Since Felarca is fond of offering definitions, let’s look at her accusation. A “lynch mob” defined by the dictionary is; “ a group of people who want to attack someone who they think has committed a serious crime “
Now can we take a second to look at the scenes of the groups of people who wanted to attack Milo Yiannopoulos for exercising nothing more than a constitutional right to free speech.
And let’s take a quick look at Milo whipping up hate and lynch mobs.
Yes, the journalist has mildly controversial views at best, but this attribution of a fascist ideology is the latest in a disturbing trend by figures in the public eye to tie any form of political views not of their own to either Nazi or fascist ideology.
Facts on the “Ban”
Turn the channel and we have Jim Jefferies telling Piers Morgan to “Fuck off” on national television because he factually stated that the Trump administration has not banned Muslims from visiting the US and suggested that it is hysterical to call Trump Hitler,
The vicious twitter storming of Morgan over the weekend confirms that even people who say factual things can now expect to feel the flames of the Trump-fearing BAMN movement.
Morgan’s crime was to tell everyone to calm down. On Bill Maher’s TV show ‘Real Time’, he got into a spat with Aussie comedian Jim Jefferies. In response to Jefferies blithering on about how Trump is Hitler, Morgan said that was ‘hysterical’. It is hysterical. He’s right.
Morgan also said it is wrong to speak of a ‘Muslim Ban’ because Muslims aren’t banned from the US. Again, he’s right. A temporary restriction on travel from seven Muslim-majority countries is not a Muslim Ban. Eighty-five percent of the world’s Muslims can still travel to the US. Or are we saying accuracy and clarity no longer matter?
By any objective, reasoned, measured assessment, what Morgan said was true. Muslims aren’t banned. Trump isn’t as bad as Hitler. These are facts. And yet Morgan has been shoved in the stocks by the Twitterati and the subject o days of ridicule and fury and even demands that he lose his TV gigs.
JK Rowling, who has of late started to play a very worrying role in unleashing vast Twittermobs, led the charge against Morgan. She branded him ‘fact-free’ and ‘amoral’, even though in this instance he was the one being factual against others who were behaving hysterically.
Not only is it hysterical, but it has trivialised the mass genocide committed by a regime intent on taking over the world by any means necessary.
To my knowledge Donald Trump has done the following so far:
- Announced he would like to run for President
- Won a democratically contested nomination for his party
- Won a democratically contested election to become president
- Announced legislation which is currently subject to challenge in a democratic and judicial manner
I have missed the part where the current administration announced it was:
- Waging war against a people or a race
- Committing mass murder
However according to Jefferies “Hitler didn’t kill the Jews on the first day.” So I will wait quietly in my corner for the murders to start against and until that day I’ll reserve judgement on that one Jim.
As for the media and BAMN, can more people with bigger platforms like Piers Morgan and Milo Yiannopoulos continue to hold up mirrors to these people’s claims and motives and continue to actually challenge and explain positions or reason to these people..by any means necessary.
